BER-Chosen as the QA/QC for PHIUS

Building Efficiency Resources is proud to be the new Quality Assurance/Quality Control contractor for Passive House Institute US (PHIUS). Chris McTaggart serves as the PHIUS+ QA/QC Manager in support of the PHIUS+ Rater program.

PHIUS is the premier passive building standards organization dedicated to optimizing the application and life-cycle affordability of constructing passive buildings in the various unique climate zones and construction styles of the United States. The PHIUS+ program is an advanced high-performance building certification standard that is the product of decades of research and international collaboration in designing and constructing low-energy buildings. Additionally, PHIUS+ ties into the national infrastructure of energy efficiency program certification standards, such as ENERGY STAR New Homes and the DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes programs while using RESNET Certified HERS Raters as on-site verification agents.

As the Quality Assurance/Quality Control contractor for Passive House Institute US, BER will be providing the same top notch service to the PHIUS+ Raters that we have been providing to our Raters since we opened our doors in 2010. The BER will provide QA/QC overview of on-site verification documentation, HERS ratings performed in conjunction with ENERGY STAR/DOE program certification, technical support, standards interpretation, and the development of new standards. BER Raters who also hold PHIUS+ certification will see an additional benefit. When submitting a file for standard QA review that will also be submitted for PHIUS+ review, the file will only have to be submitted once to achieve both reviews. This will save Raters time in the review process and avoid a duplication of QA review of their work.

BER Raters interested in becoming involved in the PHIUS+ program, we encourage you to sign up to attend a PHIUS+ Rater Training. This course includes classroom training, field training and culminates in an exam. Successful completion of the course earns a rater the qualification of PHIUS+ Rater as well as earning fourteen (14) RESNET professional development credits. To sign up for a training, or for more information on becoming a PHIUS+ Rater go to http://www.phius.org/get-professional-training/phius-rater-training/overview.

We look forward to working with PHIUS+ Raters, as well as encouraging our existing Raters to explore this exciting new opportunity to expand their businesses.
